Programs

CanSkate

CanSkate is a learn to skate program for skaters of all ages.

Parent & Tot

A learn to skate program for skaters who require hands-on assistance getting up and maneuvering on the ice. CSA approved hockey helmets required for all skaters.

CanSkate Hockey

CanSkate Hockey will follow the same stages as the regular CanSkate program but will emphasize skating skills that are important for playing Hockey or Ringette. If the skater is currently playing Hockey or Ringette full gear is encouraged although no sticks will be permitted.

STARSkate

STARSkate is a program designed for skaters to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating after completing the CanSkate program.

Synchro

Synchronized skating, or “synchro” is a team sport involving groups of eight or more skaters performing various group formations and maneuvers. The Synchro program is excellent for any StarSkate level skater, looking to compete with peers in a team event in an encouraging atmosphere. The Tara team skates at the beginner level and has won at several competitions in the past and is always looking for new members.

The Coaches

Michelle Nesbitt is a Skate Canada Professional Coach who has been coaching with the Tara club since 2007. She has her level 2 coaching and is Power Skate trained. Her personal accomplishments include Gold Level Skills, Gold Level Dance and Junior Silver Level Freeskate. She was on the competitive synchronized skating team with the Waterloo Skating Club, and currently skates with the adult synchro team Continuum.

Note: Skate Canada requires all skaters to wear a hockey helmet up to at least the end of Stage 5. Do not put anything adhesive on your skater’s helmet including name tags as this can void the warranty of the helmet.
